Vintage Tribal Naga Coffee Table – Nagaland, Early 20th Century

A true tribal original, hand-carved by Naga artisans in the hill villages of Northeast India. This low coffee table started life as a communal grinding trough, hewn from a single trunk of indigenous hardwood and used for pounding rice and millet.

The shallow, boat-shaped basin, the twin central pestle holes, and the deep adze marks are all original. Decades of sun and use have bleached the wood to a soft, driftwood blonde with natural splits, undulations, and a tactile, timeworn surface you cannot replicate. We have mounted it on a solid block pedestal to bring it to modern coffee-table height while keeping the top completely untouched.

No two Naga tables are the same. This one is prized for its compact, sculptural proportions and its beautifully eroded patina — ideal for Brutalist, Wabi-Sabi, Japandi, or modern tribal interiors.
